On the banks of the Chao Phraya River - the “River of Kings”, Bangkok began its role as the capital of Thailand over two centuries ago.River City opened in l984 is the first riverside shopping complex, managed by the Italthai Group of Companies and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group which have established a long record of successful ventures together. The River City Shopping Complex is developed to revitalize this riverside area that was once the commercial center of Bangkok. It is a convenient and superb place that caters for locals and tourists whether their wishes are shopping; dining; sightseeing; viewing art and crafts, antiques and other exhibits; or simply enjoying a view of the river and passing boats. The building's interior gives the impression of beauty and grandeur which lends the place a peaceful ambience for serious shoppers and visitors of the River City's unique year-round festivals and exhibitions.

River City's beautiful structure blends smoothly with the traditional atmosphere of the Siphya area which includes the gracious old lines of the Rosary Church on Yota Road and a walkway to Chinatown. Upon its completion in 1984, River City was awarded the Gold Medal for the “Best Commercial Complex” by the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage.
